Note: This product includes a zip file of Bill Knevitt's personal audio lessons that originally accompanied this book. These 10 tracks total just under one hour of personal instruction from Bill Knevitt himself. For a limited time only, these audio clips are available as an add on for those who already own a copy of the book. If your chops are worn out before the gig is over, this is the book for you! Containing five trumpet endurance routines per lesson, this 52-week course of study is based on the same types of exercises all the trumpet greats use. Finish this book and your fellow players will envy you as the player with “chops of iron!” Why did Bill write this book? He explains "Who needs endurance? I do. You do. Every player in the world does. I have heard players criticized for having too much technique. (“His jazz renditions have too many notes.”) I have heard players criticized for playing too high. (“He plays so high it sounds like a squeal.”) But I have never heard a player criticized for having too much endurance. Neither have you. It's one of those things you just can't get too much of." There are samples as well as his introduction in the samples to the left, please take a look, then grab an immediate PDF download above. Please note: While the majority of the exercises are written out,  there are a few “companion books” that Bill uses as part of the Ultra-Endurance lessons: The Arban Method, Claude Gordon’s Daily Trumpet Routines, Herbert Clarke’s Technical Studies, and Sigmund Hering’s Fifty Recreational Studies, Forty Progressive Studies, and Thirty-two Etudes.

Erik Veldkamp knows that trumpet players should use a drone daily to improve their playing. It provides a stable reference pitch, helping you develop better intonation and pitch control. Additionally, practicing with a drone allows trumpet players to focus on tone quality and phrasing without the distraction of accompaniment, but with the accountability of a pure and unwavering reference note. Drone Air & Flow Studies ensure that trumpeters benefit significantly from using a drone while working on airflow and lyrical studies. You can expect to gain: Consistent Airflow Control: Drones provide a stable pitch reference, allowing trumpet players to focus exclusively on their airflow and breath control. When practicing lyrical passages, maintaining a consistent and controlled stream of air is essential for achieving a smooth and expressive tone. The drone's sustained sound helps players refine their breath support and control, ensuring a steady and even airflow throughout their performance. Intonation and Pitch Centering: Even during lyrical studies, intonation remains a crucial aspect of trumpet playing. The drone serves as a reference pitch, helping players develop an acute sense of pitch and pitch centering. This is especially important when playing slower, melodic passages, where any deviation in pitch is more noticeable. Using a drone encourages trumpet players to maintain pitch accuracy while focusing on the expressive aspects of their playing. Tone Shaping and Dynamics: Lyrical studies often involve subtle changes in tone color and dynamics. With a drone as a reference, trumpet players can experiment with various tone-shaping techniques, such as vibrato and dynamic control, while keeping the pitch stable. This allows for greater musical expression and creativity while ensuring that the fundamental pitch remains accurate. Phrasing and Musicality: Playing along with a drone can help trumpet players develop a better sense of phrasing and musicality in lyrical passages. They can practice shaping musical lines, adding subtle nuances, and crafting a more emotive performance without worrying about pitch inconsistencies. This enhances their ability to convey the intended mood and emotion of the music. Using a drone while working on these 8 chapters of lyrical studies will help you refine your breath control, intonation, tone shaping, and overall musicality. It's a valuable tool for developing a more expressive and controlled playing style, particularly in lyrical and melodic contexts. This book is a stepping stone for the beginner or intermediate student before making his way to professional level studies by Arban, Schlossberg, and Clarke. Robert Fuller writes: "This book offers the beginning or intermediate trumpet student certain advantages lacking in most elementary methods. It is not divided into daily lessons of a given length, hence the student progresses as rapidly as his ability allows instead of following a schedule which doesn't take into account his uniqueness as a learner. Its series of 200 studies gradually present the fundamentals of music and trumpet technique." Samples to the left and immediate PDF download above.

Why would a 200 page collection of modern French songs be for sale at qPress? That is a very good question! The reason is that Richard Shuebruk, in his newly published book “The Cornet Player’s Guide, or, When, What, and How to Practice” cites two collections of vocal solos by Max Spicker as the best possible material for learning to transpose. Below is an excerpt from in Shuebruks own words. To the left are some samples of the nearly 200 pages of vocalises ready for your horn to unravel. “What to practice also embraces the matter of transposing the various trumpet parts. The subject seems to have caused a deal of perplexity to young players, but it is really a very simple process of arithmetic and requires only a little application to conquer it. One must set to work and unravel the subject for himself, or he will never learn it, even if a teacher gives daily instruction, one must think it out for one’s self. Get music paper and pen and write out a transposition a half tone lower; speak the note aloud every time you write; finish one song or one march, and then tear it up and do it again tomorrow. Then take the transposition of a whole tone, then higher, then a third, etc., if one would do that for fifteen minutes every day he would master the whole subject in a few months, and thoroughly, too! Very excellent material for transposing is to be found in vocal exercises and they are also fine cornet practice; the best collection the writer knows of is by Max Spicker, start with his books for medium or high voice “The Anthology of Sacred Songs” and “Anthology of Modern French Song”. Shuebruk knows what he is talking about. Check out the samples to the left then grab an immediate PDF download above.

Parès is famous for his book of daily exercises and scales (which we sell right here) but we are very happy to have dug  up a very old, long out of print Complete Trumpet Method by Parès that has not been published since 1895. There are two versions of this book. One is entitled "Methode Elementaire de Bugle" which is meant for a modern pitched instrument, and you can find that edition right here. This version here is meant for a lower pitched alto trumpet as you can see from the finger chart in the sample pages. This book is available here in the original French, but don't worry if you are an English speaker, only the first 14 pages or so are text, and the rest is almost all music (you can make sense of it anyways if you have been around the trumpet method block a few times). We are so proud to help pull these books out of obscurity. Have a look at some samples to the left and get an immediate PDF download above. *Note: We always meticulously clean the books we sell, and this is no exception. BUT, this book from pre-1900 used paper impregnated with dark brown fibres for strength and longevity. We removed most of them in the scan but you can still see some (as you can see in the samples). It is not a problem, but worth noting.
