This little known book by John Huber was such a revelation when it came out, that Herbert L. Clarke assigned it to all of the players in his Municipal Band. Clarke told Huber “I must compliment you on several new and necessary ideas both for the artist and professional player, including swing!”. Clarke’s letter ended by saying that “these studies are just what is needed for the high school player as well to improve his solo work, and there are thousands of them who need it.”

From the Author “My purpose in presenting this book is to offer original etudes for further development of the advanced student’s technical equipment. Before attempting to perform them, the player should “warm up” properly so that the embouchure becomes flexible, the tone clear and the fingers agile for clean execution.”
“By practising slowly and carefully the desired proficiency in speed, phrasing, and a good style of tonguing will be attained. If the student has a thorough knowledge of scales, tonguing and breath-control, these studies will be found constructive and interesting. By patient and conscientious study a definite improvement will shortly be realized.”
