From the Author:
“For many years, I have recognized the need for a Cornet (Trumpet) method which could be used by beginners in building a thorough musical background in an interesting and progressive manner. Many methods, while good for older and advanced students, progress too fast to give the beginner all of the material necessary in building a solid foundation in the fundamentals.
This method is the result of my experience in teaching trumpet classes in the Public Schools for the past ten years. The material has been so arranged as to give a gradual development of the playing range (tonal compass). Beginners should not be allowed to use unnecessary force or pressure.
Realizing that a good Cornet tone is developed through the playing of sustained notes and slurred exercises (legato playing), I have included many such exercises and melodies. Proper slurring will strengthen the lips and aid in the development of the embouchure.
I have included many familiar melodies and folk-tunes which will stimulate the students’ interest. I sincerely hope that this method will fill the need for which it is intended and that both the student and the teacher may benefit from the contents.” – Donald J. Pease
Pease wrote 3 books in total for the trumpet. Two are beginner methods (Including his Progressive Method and this Fundamental Method for Trumpet) and he also wrote a Follow Up Method to use after these books (or any beginner method) which you can see here.
