Notes from the author: “The Follow-Up” Method, as the name implies, is designed to follow any of the various Elementary methods. It is? essentially of Intermediate character and may be used to bridge the gap between the Elementary and the more Advanced methods of instruction.
In compiling this Method, I have included many basic studies from the works of Arban, Gatti, St. Jacome, and others. This technical material has been interspersed with many familiar and well-known melodies, which affords the student an opportunity of applying the proper interpretation and style.
Recognizing the fact, that a good Cornet (Trumpet) tone is developed through the playing of long sustained notes and slurred exercises (legato playing). I have included many such exercises. Proper slurring will strengthen the Lip Muscles, likewise, the regular practice of interval and lip slurs will aid in developing a flexibility of the lips.
The Method may be used for both individual or class instruction. I sincerely hope that this Method will provide an interesting and instructive guide to the student in his quest for musical knowledge.” ~ Donald J. Pease
Pease wrote 3 books in total for the trumpet. Two are beginner methods (Including his Progressive Method and the Fundamental Method for Trumpet) and he also wrote a Follow Up Method to use after these books (or any beginner method) which you are viewing now.
