This charming duet for two trumpets and piano was written by Italian composer Giuseppe Jacchini. On December 16, 1688, Jacchini became a member of the prestigious Accademia Filarmonica. Jacchini was renowned for his works for cello, which he helped cement as a solo instrument. Jacchini’s works for trumpet were written in the tradition of his teacher Giuseppe Torelli, whom we all know and love.
This duet is generally in the upper register of the trumpet (most of the piece is between the top of the staff and high concert C). The register of this piece makes it a perfect candidate for smaller horns, like piccolo trumpet or Eb trumpet. In fact, this duet would be a perfect introduction to the piccolo trumpet.
