Percy Code’s career was long and storied. From his birth and early career in Australia to his time in the United States playing with the San Francisco Symphony, he had already experienced a range of music and cultures that few performers of his generation could rival. As he pivoted his focus to composition, he split his time as a film composer, pit musician, and then conductor for ABC, and finally had a chance to apply his worldly experience to the creation of new music, and, luckily for us, he focused that energy primarily on brass music.
I do not know of another collection of his music for trumpet as complete as this, with full parts for trumpet and piano, and I guarantee that if you have not had the pleasure of stepping into the shoes of this world-famous cornet soloist, composer, and conductor, you are in for an absolute treat.
