Fanfares by Nicolai Tcherepnin is a solo for trumpet and piano written in the style of a bugle; all the notes of the solo part fall within a single harmonic series, meaning the performer doesn’t need to use valves (on Bb trumpet or cornet). This solo could be effectively performed in ceremonial settings and is good fun to play in highly reverberant halls or churches.

The solo part goes as high as concert Bb above the staff and as low as concert F in the staff. Once the soloist begins they will get no rests, so good endurance is required for successful performance.
