Harold Branch’s Club Date Trumpet Routines (8 Routines with Text and Musical Examples) is an extremely interesting portfolio of ideas that Harold Branch used to use when he was touring with his dance band. These are not routines like the kind you would do on your own to work on fundamentals. Instead, these are scripted ideas to use in performance with your band, including what sequence of songs to play, how to intro them, and lots of ideas for shtick to get the audience involved and interested.
Some of this is a bit dated, to be sure, but if you have a dance band or do dance band gigs, hearing from one of the founders of this genre is vital to taking this medium to new places through a deep understanding of its history.
