A “cavatine” refers to a short and simple song without repetition. Camille Saint-Saëns’ Cavatine for trombone and piano is a delightful example of the form, and is a beautiful addition to any recital or other performance.
The solo goes as high as concert Bb above the tenor clef staff and as low as concert Ab below the bass clef staff. None of the rhythms are too fast, but a delicate legato tongue is required for perfect performance.
