C.L. Barnhouse’s setting of Adeste Fideles (or, Come All Ye Faithful) is a great showpiece for an intermediate player who has a solo recital occasion around the holidays. Very similar in scope to Henri Busser’s variations on the same tune, they would actually make great bookends to the intermission to a Christmas recital.
Unlike Busser’s setting, though, this one skips the formality of explicitly stating the theme and then noodling around on it. This is a showpiece from beginning to end and will stir the audience to their feet at its conclusion.
