William Tong was a trumpeter and composer of the early 20th Century. He studied trumpet under Herbert L. Clarke and was a member of the Sousa band from 1924 to 1930. Tower of Jewels is Tong’s most notable composition for wind ensemble, and here it has been arranged for brass quintet by Peter Lindblom.
In this arrangement for quintet, Lindblom is able to preserve the depth of sound and colour palette accomplished in the original scoring for wind ensemble. The music is challenging, and should be undertaken by advanced quintets willing to devote the appropriate amount of time in the woodshed!
