This book by Harry Huffnagle was co written with the great David Gornston. As a sister publication to the great “40 Studies in Syncopation,” this book gives students a melodic and interesting collection of studies to help them learn how to play rhythmically without being bored to death by the material. Harry writes that “instrumental music teachers have come to a full realization that new study materials are absolutely necessary if they are to produce players who can read all types of music quickly. The books prepared 50 and 100 years ago do not have the substance melodically, rhythmically and harmonically necessary for the demands of the modern school program.”
“The exercises and studies in which these challenging rhythm patterns appear are beautiful musically. Study literature which is not melodically and harmonically attractive dulls not only interest, but produces players who lack general musicianship and the ability to phrase artistically.”
