John Hartmann was a cornettist and composer of the Golden Age of the cornet. Here is an excerpt from the forward to the cornet and piano version of this piece (find that version here):

Facilita by Hartmann is widely considered one of the best cornet solos from the Golden Age. While its theme and variation format is conventional, the variations are well constructed and lend themselves to virtuoso performance. Moreover, the piece is enhanced by an andante in the “relative minor” and an introduction which together constitute some of the finest melodic writing for the instrument.
