Bodet, who was a prolific author of developmental music books for brass, was adamant that the existing grand methods used to this day simply ignored the idea of proper preparation of the lips via warm-ups. “It is regrettable,” he says in his foreword, “that proper warm up and preparation studies do not exist. A singular and well directed work whose only purpose is to prepare the player and act as a preface to practicing from these larger methods each day.”
This book was written to solve this problem. To this day, though, it has never been available in English. That is why editor Timothy Quinlan, along with translator Kelsey Anderson, have completely translated Bodet’s original text to help bring this fantastic collection of exercises to a new generation of players.
Above you will see that it can be purchased in either English or French, and to the left you can see how the book begins. If you are looking for a warm-up routine for yourself, your students, and your studio, this is the book for you. Dig in, you are going to be glad you did.
