Francçois Devienne played in various Parisian ensembles as soloist and orchestra player. He was also a member of the Military Band of the French Guard where he was given the rank of sergeant with the duty of teaching the children of his colleagues in the military band in its Free School of Music. After the Revolutionary period, when the Free School became the National Institute of Music, later chartered as the Paris Conservatory in 1795, Devienne was appointed an administrator and flute professor.
These 24 duets by Devienne have been edited and adapted by Erik Veldkamp, and are a great mix of lyrical and tuneful duets combined with technical set pieces that both challenge and impress. The range is not too high or too low, like in many adaptations, and I guarantee these will make it into your regular duet rotation.
To the left you can play the entire first duet for free, then you can grab an immediate PDF download above.
