Couillaud’s 31 Studies for Trombone, or “Trente et une études brillantes” is another example of Couillaud’s collaboration and adaptation of Bleger’s work for solo trombone.
These studies are technical in nature, and provide a nice contrast to the lyrical French etudes found in the majority of Couillaud’s other books. These studies require precision in intervals, varied articulations, arpeggiated figures, and efficiency, as each study is quite long with little in the way of rests. Rhythms get more complex here too, with the first sign of double dots making an appearance by the last pages.
All of these books by Couillaud have only be available in oversized European editions until now. These books are priced at 50% of retail in the hopes that they will be adopted by a growing number of players worldwide.
