Francis Bodet was a trumpeter and composer who studied in France in the class of Merri Franquin at the Paris Conservatory. Over the course of his illustrious career he wrote a series of 6 books for the trumpet, each covering a different area of style, technique, or practice.
16 Studies in Transposition are excellent practice for transposing at sight, because just like the Bordogni, these studies are melodically and stylistically involved while throwing you a different transposition in each phrase. To keep the melody going, your transposition has to be impeccable. The value of this type of study, beyond the sheer difficulty of it, is that you can immediately tell when your transposition is incorrect. This gives the learner immediate feedback while also throwing a steady diet of curve balls.
