Gallay’s “12 Etudes for Trombone or Tuba”, like the rest of his works, started life as a set of horn etudes. These were put into bass clef and edited for the trombone by Estevan Dax. Interestingly, these etudes have no overlap at all with the 5 sets of trumpet etudes we carry at qPress, so they must have been excerpted from a section of Gallay’s grand method for horn (I will be sure to grab a copy and see if there is a correlation).
These etudes are challenging, stylistically interesting, and surprisingly idiomatic. For anyone tired of playing the same old etudes, there is enough challenging material here to keep and intermediate to advanced player occupied for a very long time.
If you have never seen these I recommend that you try out the first few studies in the samples to the left, then you can grab an immediate PDF download above.
