Jeanjean’s Fantaisie Mélodique is very similar in style to his more widely known “Capriccioso” and is also scored for trumpet and piano. This solo uses the same loose cadenzas as the Capriccioso does, and though it is given a marking of Allegretto, it will have an even greater sense of rubato because of the wide range of rhythms and articulations in use. This one is light and fun and the big finish makes it a great addition to a recital program or masterclass performance.
