Precision and accuracy were the number one focus when Theo Charlier wrote his 32 Etudes for the Trombone or Tuba. The studies require dexterity and nimble flexibility, as well as pinpoint accuracy and total instrument command. He mentions in his foreword that his experience has allowed him to offer some advice on the adjustment of the instrument to obtain the greatest possible intonation, which is of paramount importance for slide or piston instruments. It stands to reason that the extreme precision and wonderful musicality present in these etudes is the reason why they have not only survived in the low brass literary cannon, but are still required material in nearly all college level music courses for the trombone and tuba.
I have included the foreword and the first study in the samples to the left, please have a look then purchase an immediate PDF download above.
