William Walond was an English composer and organist of the middle 18th century. He is celebrated for many works, including Voluntary which has been arranged for Brass Quintet by Peter Lindblom.
The construction of the piece is characteristic of organ music, which allows it to sit well on brass instruments. The parts are technically demanding, but lie in very comfortable ranges for all the instruments. The main challenge for quintet members is to be constantly aware of who has the melody and letting that come to the forefront of the music.
