Walter Eby’s “Virtuoso Course of Instruction for the Trumpet” is a 166 page manual for exactly how to practice all areas of the instrument. The interesting part of this book, though, is not that it is a trumpet method, but more a methodical approach to how to practice things like attack, slurring, range, velocity, embellishments, rhythm, intervals, and tone production, all without any musical examples at all. This book uses exercises and studies from the Arban Conservatory Method as the basis of the musical practice, with a few pages written on each subject before giving you a detailed list of exercises to practice. The instructions often include exact metronome markings for the exercises with precise instructions for what to practice and in what order.
This is like an early version of Bolvin’s Arban Manual or the Prescott System, but instead of just telling you what to practice and when, it gives you detailed instructions as only a renowned teacher like Walter Eby can do.
FREE OFFER: When you purchase Eby’s fantastic Arban Course, you also receive a free copy of our Arban Conservatory Method, edited by EF Goldman, with all of the exact page numbers referenced in the Eby course.
