This trumpet ensemble method is one of the most brilliant beginner books I have ever seen. It is a step by step method for learning how to play the trumpet, but instead of it being usable for only one player (which it is), every single exercise is written in 3 part harmony! Students learn together in harmony by playing exercises where all three parts are the same difficulty and at the same level. In the author’s foreword, quoted below, he says he wanted students to learn all of the parts to reduce any undesirable distinctions between trumpet 1, 2 or 3, which I think is a very good idea.
Please read the author’s foreword below, check out samples to the left, then grab a copy of this wonderfully unique method above. You will be very glad you did!
Oscar J. Lehrer:
I have car?fully prepared a Class Method for Trumpet with all the exercises written in three part harmony, but each part dealing with the same subject matter. Students should master all the three parts first in unison, then the class should be divided into three sections.
In this manner there are no undesirable distinctions such as: 1st Trumpet, 2nd Trumpet, and 3rd Trumpet parts, for all play the whole exercise. The Clarinet Ensemble Method can be used in conjunction with the Trumpet Method since all the exercises are in harmony with each other. Even the numbers of the pieces correspond and in many cases when used jointly for recital purposes complete Quintets will result.
Since I assume that no one will attempt class teaching who is not a competent teacher, I am purposely refraining from telling the teacher how to teach, but I have confined myself only to the task of furnishing suitable material, arranged progressively, and in the selection and harmonizing of the pieces it was my aim to create love of good music.
