Spring Waters is a collection of the most popular songs and concert staples of vocal repertoire for over a century, all adapted masterfully for the trumpet for the first time. The remarkable tonal picture of the title piece heralds the arrival of spring. The piano accompaniment’s unmistakably abundant and virtuosic style, rushes in torrents of arpeggios, portraying waves of cascading water while accompanying the impassioned trumpet melody, which perfectly matches every image and sentiment reflected enthusiastically in the poem setting.

Though “Spring Waters” is worth the price of admission alone, the rest of the album for trumpet and piano is just as delightful. Music from Romeo and Juliet is a favourite of mine, and Music in the style of Albeniz was tailor-made to cap off a recital. These are equally at home in the practice studio, on the recital stage, and as a part of a full curriculum in schools and conservatories.
