Each pattern should be played in a slow steady tempo, gradually speeding up while keeping the notes well centered. Learn to hear the distance between the notes of the pattern. Once you can play the pattern with exacting accuracy, buzz it on the mouthpiece. Begin to use a variety of rhythms and articulations with each pattern, with a selection suggested on the first page.
