This book that teaches proper plunger mute technique has the most amazing origin story. When Al Grey was playing with Count Basie and recording a soundtrack for a Fred Astaire movie, Al Grey had to take dozens of shots at the first tune, never getting it right on record, and costing the recording company tons of money in overtime fees. The group took a break, and he looked over his part, only to realize that it was the plunger mute writing that was making it too complicated to read and perform. On that day, he created his 5-position plunger mute theory and notation, fixed the part, nailed it on the first time on tape, then wrote this book.
Not only do you get the first and only book in the world dedicated to plunger mute playing, but you also get 16 audio tracks of Al Grey demonstrating the techniques in the book, and his big band putting them all into practice, too.
To the left you will find some samples, and above you can grab an immediate digital download.
