From Koenig’s Journal for Cornet ~ a ~ Pistons No. 77, 1851. Published in London, this Victorian cornet solo is taken from Jullien’s famous Grand Opera, “Pietro il Grande.” It is in the form of a polka in 3/4 time. The typical polonaise used a rhythm quite close to that of the Swedish sixteenth-note polska, the two dances having a common origin.
