Gerald Ensley studied with Roger Voisin and Robert Nagel, and went on to become a world renowned lecturer and author about the trumpet, culminating in his creation of Tromba Publications. I am thrilled to be working with Tromba to posthumously re-release his books, bringing them back into circulation for the first time in 4 decades.

“Odd Meter Etudes for Trumpet” is a continuation of classic material by Arban, Petit, and Franquin, and takes players into new rhythmic territory that the old masters just didn’t have to deal with. Gerald writes that “Since WWII there has been a flourish of music for trumpet, much of which has involved the technique of odd meter. Unfortunately, the majority of the beginning method material are of older rhythmic orientation and fail to prepare the student for the more irregular rhythmic patterns which await him in advanced playing.”

“These have been written to acquaint players with irregular rhythmic techniques at an early stage and to avoid becoming metrically bound to even meters.”
