For too long, trumpet quartet has been woefully under served when it comes to repertoire. We are thrilled that Randall Reyman, author of many wonderful books on the art of trumpet playing, chose to take up the task of adapting 28 of the most popular jazz standards in history for trumpet quartet, complete with rhythm section. These charts total nearly two hours of music, perfect for multiple sets for public performance, or many nights of trumpet hangs with your friends at your studio.

A purchase of this products gets you a set of parts for Trumpets 1, 2, 3, and 4, and rhythm section. These books total over 350 pages and 2+ hours of music. In the samples you will see examples of all 5 parts, along with some extra trumpet 1 parts to see the quality of the arrangements. Below you will find Randall’s foreword, the song list, and 9 full recordings of these tunes as recorded by the Four Other Brothers jazz trumpet quartet.

From the foreword: In the summer of 2012, Randall Reyman brought three other Illinois university jazz trumpet professors together to form Four Other Brothers. Reyman’s concept was to write 4-trumpet/rhythm section arrangements which focused on historical aspects of jazz with the music of past jazz trumpet greats taking center stage. In the years that followed, FOB appeared throughout the Midwest performing at jazz festivals, state and national music conferences, jazz clubs, and jazz society events. In the process, the group’s repertoire grew from only a handful of charts to over sixty.

This collection includes the best of their repertoire. Many of these arrangements focus on a particular trumpeter from the past, featuring a solo transcription voiced for all four trumpeters. Though these are complete arrangements for trumpet quartet and rhythm section (piano, bass, drums), trumpet quartets can have a lot of fun playing through the ensemble sections and transcription solis without rhythm section accompaniment. Then when you’re ready, simply add a rhythm section and you’ll be set to perform them! While the rhythm section parts are fairly easy, the trumpet parts can be challenging, since they were written for professional-level players. Still, your efforts will definitely be worth it. The Four Other Brothers hope you enjoy playing these arrangements as much as they do.
