Conrad Gozzo’s nicknames were “Goz” and “Gopher”, due to his resemblance to a gopher when viewed from the front while he was playing. He was considered by his colleagues as being an exceptionally strong trumpeter with a well-developed range and tonal quality. His worldwide renown for lead playing has lead to the creation of this new series of transcription books by Stuart McLean-Fowler, where the lead book from very famous albums is transcribed note-for-note so you can play along and give your high register practice what it is most notably missing: context.
The Girls and Boys on Broadway album from Billy May and his Orchestra is inspired by the Broadway revue about the battle of the sexes. All of the tunes are presented here in traditional May fashion, that is, danceable for those who like to dance, fresh and exciting for those who prefer only to listen, and praiseworthy to all for the wedding of great musical ideas with fine individual musicianship, lead by the fine lead trumpeting of Conrad Gozzo.
