The purpose of this booklet (which is subtitled “Ultra-Trumpet Practice Routine for Beginners”) is not to replace any Band Method Books, of which there are many fine ones on the market today. However, you will notice that in the regular Band Method Books, there may be one line every several pages, or an occasional entire page, that says “For Trumpets Only.”
Band Method Books are very good at teaching music theory, and it is for this reason that I have included almost no theory in this booklet.
Rather, the purpose of these routines is to fill the gap between theory and practice by giving the student exercises in the fundamentals of playing the trumpet, while making it fun at the same time.
I have personally used these exercises with beginners for years, and have sent them to Band Directors for field testing. One Band Director voiced the opinion of all in saying, “After using the Bill Knevitt exercises, I can honestly say that this year’s beginning trumpets are the best I have had in all my years of teaching.”
To all students: I wish you the very best as you begin what could be one of the most exciting ventures of your life: BLOWING THE TRUMPET!
