We are proud to announce that this new translation by Chris Fenje puts this incredible book into English for the first time ever! Longinotti originally published this book under the title “Les Premieres lecons du trompettiste, initiation classique et progressive, L’etude de la trompette” and it includes a total of 290 exercises for the beginning trumpeter.

There are several missions at qPress, and one is to help expand the repertoire for beginning players. There has always been a gap of quality material for players with a one octave range, and whenever I find something I do my best to get it in the hands of aspiring players all over the world. These exercises are simple at first, gradually progressive, accessible, help to slowly expand your range in both directions, and don’t bog the player down with instructions. Here is what Longinotti has to say about it:

This book is rationally designed for young people. This work is a “pedagogical essay” created with the intention of filling a gap in the school literature available to teachers who will introduce students to the study of the trumpet.

In fact, many of the known methods, unanimously appreciated for their indisputable value, can hardly be suitable for the beginner, because in our opinion, they do not take into account the real needs of a progressive, “non- accelerated”, and rational program.

By personal experience and after having received confirmation from emeritus teachers, we can claim that it is “almost” impossible to initiate a student by exclusive use of the existing methods.

Why is that?

Because, in principle, all the methods force the student, if he wants to follow strictly the established progression, to play in the high register too early; this makes the work unbearable and tedious, while facilitating bad habits and serious defects which will be difficult to eliminate later on.

This is the reason why we have decided to progressively extend the range of our exercises and to limit it from low C to G above the staff.
