Louis-François Dauprat was professor of horn at the Paris Conservatory. His monumental Méthode de Cor, is a book more hornists should be more familiar with today. This method is in French, yes, but only the first few pages include text, the rest is a beautifully written, progressive method for the horn that takes players through all areas of playing to create a complete and efficient player.

This edition of Dauprat’s massive horn method has been edited by Bremond, distilling the work down to a manageable 68 pages, and making it usable for both third valve descending horns (as usual) AND third valve ascending horns. The ascending horn is a French system with its origins in the 19th century that is still seen in use today, so it is a good thing to know about.

Interspersed between exercises are etudes and duets meant to put your work into practice, with style studies and chromatic exercises at the end to bring it all together.

If you do not know this book, you should take a look, it is one of the best values out there. Check out a few samples to the left then grab an immediate PDF download above.
