B.A. Burditt’s Complete Preceptor for the Bugle/Flugelhorn is a perfect compliment to the study of early trumpet technique. It was originally published as a small, half sized booklet, but has been reproduced here in a more modern “letter” sized book, two originals per page.

After a short introduction comparing the modern bugle to the post horn or keyed bugle, and showing how the use of a thumb and index finger valve can increase the range and usefulness of the instrument, Burditt goes into etudes, exercises, and songs for the bugle. This book is so old and rare that cleaning it up was a major undertaking. I am very happy to end up with a legible copy that is true to the original to keep it in the catalogue for generations to come.
