“The development of the technical facility and musicianship necessary to meet the demands of present-day trumpet repertoire has created the need for new and comprehensive instructional method.

In seeking such a method to use with my students at Berklee, I began experimenting with a book developed by my colleague – Joseph Viola. The results were immediately evident. The test group (including intermediate and advanced students ) after one semester had acquired a far higher degree of “aural -visual -manual” coordination than their contemporaries who were exposed only to traditional methodology.

Much of the source material for this book has been taken directly from “Chord Studies for Saxophone” by Joseph Viola. The exercises have, however, been extensively revised to provide natural fingerings and phrasings for the trumpet.

A conscientious study of the material in this volume will enable the student to develop a practical working knowledge of all chords, their auxiliaries and their high degrees as he gains technical proficiency on his instrument.”
