David Snow’s Brass Ring was commissioned by Timothy Quinlan for the wedding of Jordi Hepburn and Gavin Whitehead. This collaboration created a showpiece that was inspired by the joy and excitement of young love and the final product will surely remain at the forefront of modern trumpet literature. It is virtuosic and quick, showing off the performer’s manual dexterity and multiple tonguing, but much like the Concert Etude of Alexander Goedicke, it is approachable by players at various stages of development, and will certainly be found on conservatory exam lists in the future.
qPress is proud to announce that 100% of the profits from the sale of this piece will be given to the Sustainable Youth Development Partnership. SYDP is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit making organization originally formed by students from various higher learning institutions in Tanzania, Africa. SYDP connects youth positively to their communities and improves community life nationally and internationally through the spread of youth–led service initiatives.
Jordi and Gavin were put in leadership roles in an African school before they began their teaching careers in Canada. SYDP’s mission to put students in positions of leadership give the opportunity for youth to be empowered to create a better world for us all.
My heartfelt thanks to David Snow for making this project possible.
