“Contemporary Trumpet Studies” by Blatter & Zonn, annotated and edited by David Hickman, is the quintessential guide to contemporary extended-technique notation for the trumpet. This book is endorsed by the International Conference on New Musical Notation, held in Belgium, and stands to this day as both a vital notebook for modern composers, and study book for contemporary trumpet players.

The book is broken up into sections, starting with a Notation Guide, then Metric Studies, Rhythmic Studies, Intervalic Studies, 20th Century Studies, and ending with Aleatoric Studies.

The writing is fresh, energetic, and delightfully challenging. If you are tackling modern works for our instrument this really is a must have book in your library. Below I am quoting the bios of the authors, to the left you can play some free samples, then above you can grab an immediate digital download.
