The original Italian title of this book is Studi Superiori per l’Emissione dell’ Aria (don’t worry, there is no Italian text contained in the book). It includes eight multi-page studies by Rocco Bicchiere (edited by Mark Adler) intended to develop the preservation and conservative use of air. Each etude is built on a rhythmic or melodic sequence. As the book progresses, the slur markings become shorter and more irregular, sometimes crossing the barlines. The intent is to challenge the performer to keep air flowing despite having to use the tongue more frequently while playing smaller slurred groupings. Composer also incorporates wider intervals and quick movements from low to high register to challenge advanced students.
