The Christmas Jam has been produced to encourage promising young musicians to practice, and grow in confidence as a performing musicians, as well as have a lot of fun playing wonderful Christmas carols. The arrangements are predominantly in a jazz style and developed with brass and woodwind players in mind – Instruments in Bb, C (high and low) and bass clef.
Christmas is a great time to be able to perform as a musician. Developing your performance skills in front of an audience is important. This could be your family, friends, school class or your church (in fact, anyone who wants to listen). You could even try some busking downtown. The more you play the more confident you will become and the better you will sound. Always play to the best of your ability.
There is room for you to experiment with the melodies. In jazz, creativity and musicianship go hand-in-hand. Try changing what has been written to make it sound better! Perform the carols with your friends and work out together how you will perform them. If you are playing in a duo one player might play the written part and another make up a part to go with it. Ask your teacher to help you.
Every tune in the book has a full backing track for practice and performance, as well as a full album of demo recordings to model after, performed by Cameron Pearce.
