In addition to mastering technical studies (scales, tonguing, slurring, etc.), young players must also have etudes and other material with which to put technical ability into practice within a musical context. Many beginning or intermediate trumpet books today contain only limited etudes for musical study or sight-reading. These “40 Short Pieces for Intermediate Trumpet” are a good source of additional study to supplement one’s practice routine. With a variety of styles, tempi and articulations, students can have some fun using these pieces for sight-reading or practice them to perfection for weekly lessons.
