Louis Michiels was a Belgian horn player who held a Premier Prix from a Belgian conservatory. After immigrating to Montreal, Canada before 1914, Michiels remained an active performer and pedagogue. Michiels co-founded the Belgian-Canadian Musical Institute in 1925 which was modelled after European instructional methods.

Paul Gilson was a Belgian composer who taught composition and at the Brussels Conservatory. He was awarded  the Belgian Prix de Rome for a cantata, Sinaï.

These etudes are written in contrasting styles, giving the collection great musical diversity. Technically appropriate for the intermediate hornist, these etudes can be enjoyed by everyone.
