There is so much to love about Charlier’s First Solo de Concours. It is a true contest piece; It is virtuosic, it is fast, it is exciting, and it has lots of room for personal expression. Have you ever played in a contest before against all different instruments and not just trumpets? If you have, you notice that we don’t have a ton of pieces that stand up against violin or piano show pieces. This one does. It begins with some really nice leaps into the upper register to get everyone’s attention, and it builds to a climactic finish that will make audiences jump to their feet.
If you have not heard this or played it, now is the time, you are going to wonder what you have been waiting for. Check out the first page in the samples then grab an immediate PDF download above.
