Sensitive, artistic, musical performance requires an understanding of style, phrasing and interpretation. Emphasis in this book is to be placed on the development of these elements of musical expression. These etudes employ a variety of articulations which lie essentially within a comfortable two octave range.

One must continually be aware of and sensitive to the subtleties of dynamic nuances, which are as important to the musician as inflection in the voice is to the actor.

These etudes have been published in a sequence – merely suggested as one possible order – to expand the performer’s intellectual and technical ability for more mature musical thought.
