Hermann Pietzsch’s Twenty-Two Virtuoso Studies is a gem of an etude book, full of wonderfully challenging studies that push the boundaries of technical difficulty compared to other method books of its time.  Studies range from the soaring slow melodic to multiple tonguing octaves to everywhere in between. The study book is all but forgotten in conservatory circles but I do not understand why; The Pietzsch studies are some of the most challenging and rewarding etudes written for our instrument.
